It's been a heckuva ride

In just a couple of days, it'll have been two years, and I'll no longer be the District Commissioner . I know of others who've done this job for many years, and my hat is definitely off to them. I've had other positions where it was easy enough to keep plugging along year after year, but this one wasn't it for me.

It's been very rewarding at times, not so much at other times, but very definitely a learning experience almost all the time. There have been times where I got to put to the test any bits of patience and diplomacy I thought I had, and other times where I should have displayed much more of both.

I'm certainly not putting my Scouting uniforms in the back of the closet, since I have a new assistant council commissioner patch to sew on and lots of things still to help with and be involved with in the district and units! It will, however, be a good thing to have fewer meetings and absolute commitments. The family needs more time. Perhaps we'll go camping...

Happy Birthday BSA!

February 8, 1910 - BSA was officially organized and began here in the United States... and here it is 100 years later - February 8, 2010. Obviously, I haven't been part of the Scouting movement THAT long (though my kids - and husband - claim that I'm older than the dinosaurs - and that means that my parents are older than dirt...) but the little bit of my life that I have been a Scouter has been wonderful! I'm grateful to be part of Scouting right now... the excitement, the character building, the service, the friendships...
Happy Birthday, BSA!
