Hmm... in the last few months...
We've had some rain - we still need more.
Conrad made region mixed choir.
Karen finished another semester at BYU-Idaho.
Anne got a B in Biology.
Braces are a way of life (for both Anne and Addie).
Conrad made it as an alternate for area auditions (in about a week).
We've had a great Christmas.
Happy New Year!

Choir auditions...
So Conrad made it through the district auditions... now he just has the region auditions ahead of him. Anne will try again next year - she did pretty well for a freshman (many don't even try) and she made it at least to be able to audition at the district level. I have a feeling that she'll learn at ton this year with Mr. Braden at the high school and be able to do even better next year.
Go AHS Choir!!

We really need some rain...
So, we've had a really hot and dry summer and trees are starting to show it. The brown that doesn't normally come until late November is here. Dead leaves are everywhere - and it's not due to the changing season - it's because the trees are stressed and many are dead (or almost there). Here's yesterday's report on our horrible summer.
Join us as we pray for rain... and cooler temperatures. The family history blog got updated today as well... :)

Change
So today I've begun the job of updating my family history blog (Comings and Crossings)... new background, new links (since Geocities is no more). That's what happens when we start having family discussions about "What did your [insert relative's name here] do for a living? Did [insert relative's name] ever go to college?" -- then they want to know why my links are working...

It's been a heckuva ride
In just a couple of days, it'll have been two years, and I'll no longer be the District Commissioner . I know of others who've done this job for many years, and my hat is definitely off to them. I've had other positions where it was easy enough to keep plugging along year after year, but this one wasn't it for me.
It's been very rewarding at times, not so much at other times, but very definitely a learning experience almost all the time. There have been times where I got to put to the test any bits of patience and diplomacy I thought I had, and other times where I should have displayed much more of both.
I'm certainly not putting my Scouting uniforms in the back of the closet, since I have a new assistant council commissioner patch to sew on and lots of things still to help with and be involved with in the district and units! It will, however, be a good thing to have fewer meetings and absolute commitments. The family needs more time. Perhaps we'll go camping...

Happy Birthday BSA!
February 8, 1910 - BSA was officially organized and began here in the United States... and here it is 100 years later - February 8, 2010. Obviously, I haven't been part of the Scouting movement THAT long (though my kids - and husband - claim that I'm older than the dinosaurs - and that means that my parents are older than dirt...) but the little bit of my life that I have been a Scouter has been wonderful! I'm grateful to be part of Scouting right now... the excitement, the character building, the service, the friendships...
Happy Birthday, BSA!

Giving Thanks
Boy, we're at the end of *November* already. In the holiday season, and life is busy busy busy with all sorts of activities, events, and things to prepare for and get tied up and complete.
But hey - all in all, life is pretty darn good. We've got enough food to have to wash the plates, a kiddo that's bright enough to send us tuition bills, others with enough health to wear out pants, and even a few folks left who don't see their caller ID fast enough not to accept our phone calls.
